Covid-19: Cases escalate in S. Maradhoo, total at 29

Addu City, Maldives – Confirmed Covid-19 cases in Maradhoo, Addu City increases with the island recording 29 active cases over the past few weeks.

The latest statistics from Addu Emergency Operations Center (AEOC) reveals that at present, there are a total of 29 active Covid-19 cases in Maradhoo. While three people confirmed to have tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday, they were all from direct contacts. However, random samples are also testing positive from Maradhoo.

Maradhoo initially had no cases at the beginning of the year, while cases were being confirmed in all the remaining connected islands, even when the Covid-19 situation worsened during late April in Addu City. However, the cases started to increase at the start of June, with the island confirming up to daily 10 cases on some days.

Covid-19 cases are still the highest in Hithadhoo among the islands in Addu City. According to the latest statistics from AEOC, active cases in Hithadhoo has increased up to 43 cases. While there are active three cases in Maradhoofeydhoo, there are currently no active cases in Feydhoo and Hulhumeedhoo. The total number of active cases in Addu City is 75.
