Connecting Addu to East Africa will bring development: Speaker Nasheed

Addu City, Maldives – Former President and current Speaker of Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed stated this Wednesday that connecting the port in Addu City to East Africa would bring developments to city.

Speaking at the “Club House,” Speaker Nasheed informed that the ruling MDP party has always had views to develop the port of Addu City by handing over it to another company. However, he stated that after former President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom came into power, their idea was changed.

Despite this, Speaker Nasheed stated at the session that MDP still envisions to develop the Addu port as it would be very advantageous. Noting that previously also there had been transportation between Addu City and East Africa, Speaker Nasheed stated that the harbor would be best used by connecting the the harbors of East Africa to Addu.

Speaker Nasheed states that MDP has always viewed that developing the harbor in Addu and connecting it worldwide would bring lots of developments to the city.
