Malé, Maldives – Criminal Court has scheduled a table for the hearings and to present a verdict on blogger Yameen Rasheed’s murder case before December 18, 2021.
Yameen Rasheed was murdered on April 23, 2017. He was found at the stairs of his residence with extreme injuries from a sharp object. He was killed due to a religious conflict, according to Police and Death Commission.
Charges have been raised against six induvuals in the case. They are:
- Ismail Haisham Rasheed, H.Annaarumaage
- Ahmed Zihaan Ismail, M.Iraasmikuge
- Mohamed Dhifraan, GDh.Gaddhoo, Sindhubaadhuge
- Hassan Shifaz, M.Kudhehige
- Ismail Rasheed, M.Thaaif
- Hussain Ziyadh, M.Kolhufushee East
While a hearing was held at the Criminal Court after about six months, the lawyers were not prepared to present a speech about the proofs they had collected. Upon the lawyer’s request, Judge Adam Ahmed at the Criminal Court presented a scheduled table on the hearings for Yameen Rasheed’s murder case.
According to the scheduled table, the next hearing to speak about the proof’s on Yameen’s case will be held on September 16 at 13:00. Followed by the hearing for the testimonies of Yameen’s inheritor on October 14 at 09:00. While the closing statement of the case has been scheduled to be held on November 18 at 09:00, according to the law, a verdict must be made within 30 days of the closing statement. If the hearings proceed as scheduled in the table, a verdict on Yameen’s case must be made before December 18, 2021.
Although the previous Judge, retired Ibrahim Ali and Judge Ali Rasheed who has been changed to the Supreme Court had also made a scheduled table for the hearings of Yameen, due to multiple reasons the hearings could not be held as scheduled.
