Malé, Maldives – A virtual ceremony to mark the completion of the Classrooms Project in N. Lhohi School and R. Kinolhas School was held today.
This project was funded with a combined grant of MVR 12 million, under the Indian Grant Assistance of MVR 106 million.
The Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali, Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed, the High Commissioner of India to the Maldives Sunjay Sudhir delivered remarks at the event. The ceremony was also attended by the High Commissioner of Maldives to India Dr. Hussain Niyaaz, Secretary, Multilateral Dr. Hala Hameed and senior officials from the Ministry of Education and both schools.
Speaking at the event, Foreign Secretary Ghafoor highlighted the importance of implementing a holistic education system for the enhancement and overall enjoyment of school life for the students of Kinolhas School and Lhohi School.
Under this project, additional classrooms have been constructed in both schools accommodating students in a single session of school, allowing schools to coordinate extra-curricular activities as a means to broadening perspectives of students and developing a diversity of skills and interests. Furthermore, the new classrooms provide access to advanced technology and increase accessibility by catering to the needs of disabled students.
The financial support has been provided from the grant assistance of USD 6.9 million (MVR 106 million) granted to the Government of Maldives by the Government of India in March 2019. The aim of the grant assistance is to conduct socio-economic development projects across the country which are of high impact. The projects under this grant are managed by local authorities.
