Haa Alif Atoll, Maldives – The expansive project to establish Inclusive Education Support Units in three regional schools, HA. Atoll Education Centre (HA.Dhidhdhoo), Aboobakuru School (GDh.Thinadhoo) & Ihadhdhoo School (L.Gan), kicked off on Thursday in an event held at Dhidhoo AEC.

The project supported through an MVR 4.6 million grant assistance from India aims to bring equity and accessibility to the overall education system.

The project scope encompasses a comprehensive approach to improve the functioning of IES Units in these three schools by:

  • building human resource capacities
  • refurbishing and developing the required infrastructure
  • procuring the required equipment
  • providing the necessary teaching and learning materials

Projects that support educational development and bring about a qualitative change in the lives of children are a focus area of India’s developmental assistance to the Maldives.

Some of these projects include the gifting of Fehendhoo-Goidhoo Student Ferry, equipment for setting up Children’s Parks across 67 islands of the Maldives, renovation of state children’s shelter “Fiyavathi”, strengthening IES support units in Fuvahmulah and Kulhudhuffushi and construction of classrooms at Lhohi and Kinolhas schools.

Over 45 High-Impact community development projects are being implemented under India’s total grant assistance of MVR 260 million to the Maldives. Close to 20 of these projects have been completed and inaugurated.
