No political party in Maldives can compete with MDP: President Solih

Shaviyani Atoll, Maldives – President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said to the Shaviyani Atoll leaders of Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) that said that there is no other political party in the Maldives that can compete with MDP.

Local news Mihaaru reports that the President also stated that regardless of differences in opinion internally, MDP will not veer off the party’s core values including the greater vision in serving the people.

President Solih added that internal differences are solvable and solutions for problems rise from differences in opinion. He further said that there is no other political party in the Maldives that can compete with MDP and MDP reached the position through dialogue regarding problems.

The President has said this at a time when there are factions formed within MDP and the party Chairperson Hassan Latheef has intervened to find a peaceful solution.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed, this morning, departed on a trip to the North Miladhunmadulu (Shaviyani) Atoll and North Maalhosmadulu (Raa) Atoll. The President and First Lady will be travelling to 4 islands of Shaviyani Atoll and 4 islands of Raa Atoll during a three-day trip.

President Solih and First Lady Fazna will visit Funadhoo Island, Lhaimagu Island, Foakaidhoo Island and Maaungoodhoo Island of Shaviyani Atoll, and then Vaadhoo Island, Alifushi Island, Rasgetheemu Island and Angolhitheemu Island of Raa Atoll.

During this trip, the President is scheduled to hold discussions with key stakeholders from each island, including the elected officials of the Atoll Councils, Island Councils and Women’s Development Committees (WDCs) and stakeholders from important local communities such as fishing and farming sectors.

The President and First Lady are scheduled to conclude this trip and return to Malé City on Thursday night this week.
