United Kingdom – The United Kingdom has announced that the Maldives and 7 other countries are to be removed from the UK red list effective 22 September 2021, 04:00.
UK Transport Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said that he was delighted to announce to travellers that starting Wednesday, 8 countries including, Turkey, Egypt, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Oman, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Kenya will be removed from the UK red list.
He added that the UK will also be introducing a new simplified system for international travel from 4 October 2021, simplifying travel the UK guidelines by maintaining a red list only and easing measures for the rest of the world.
Shapps further stated that fully vaccinated persons will not need a pre-departure test and starting late October will be allowed to replace the day 2 PCR test with a cheaper lateral flow test.
The Maldives has welcomed the decision with the Tourism Minister Abdulla Mausoom stating that Maldives is eager to welcome the UK back. The High Commissioner of Maldives to UK Farah Faizal also welcomed UK residents to visit the Maldives stall at the National Wedding Show hosted at the London Olympia, today and tomorrow to win a full board honeymoon in the Maldives.
