COVID-19: Islands under monitoring drop to 11

Malé, Maldives – Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) informed today that the number of islands under monitoring for the Covid-19 virus has dropped to 11.

This is a significant drop since cases were above 20 until mid-September.

All districts of Addu City are still under monitoring with an increase in cases according to the most recent statistics. In addition to Addu City, K. Gaafaru, K. Gulhi, GA. Gemanafushi, GA. Maarandhoo, GA. Villingilli and Th. Dhiyamingili are also under monitoring.

Meanwhile, the total number of new cases recorded as of yesterday are 126, with 32 cases recorded in the Greater Malé area and 88 in the inhabited islands. 2 cases were reported from live aboard and 4 from operational resorts in the Maldives.

There are 1,614 active cases in the country from 3,893 sampled tested in the past 24 hours. Only 15 Covid-19 patients are being treated in the hospitals.

A total of 84,290 Covid-19 cases have been recorded to date in the Maldives with 231 deaths. 82,432 patients have recovered from Covid-19.

Of the eligible population, 335,293 residents living in the Maldives are fully vaccinated while 391,582 have received the first dose.
