Malé, Maldives – The former President and current Speaker of the Maldives Parliament Mohamed Nasheed is set to return to the UK on 29 October to attend the COP 26.
Local news Dhauru reports that Nasheed is set to depart to the UK on 29 October 2021. Nasheed will also attend the COP 26 UN Climate Change Conference hosted at Glasgow from 31 October to 12 November 2021.
While Nasheed is an active advocate in the fight against climate change, the Speaker has not announced the visit in an official capacity at this juncture.
Speaker Nasheed arrived in the Maldives on October 11, for the first time since he was airlifted for treatment on May 13 2021 after the May 6 terror attack. The Speaker of the Maldives Parliament was recovering in the United Kingdom before his return to the Maldives.
The IED explosion went off around 20:20 on 6 May leaving Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed critically injured while he was getting into his car near his house, G. Kenereege, Malé City. In addition to him, 3 more people were also been reported to be injured from the explosion including the Speaker’s bodyguards and bystanders.
