Malé, Maldives – The former President and current Speaker of the Maldives Parliament has returned to work as the Speaker for today’s session of the parliament.

In addition to returning to work, Nasheed also visited his home, Kenereege, for the first time since the May 6 terror attack yesterday.

The IED blast near Kenereege targeting the Speaker left him critically injured. Nasheed visited his home prior to the attack on Monday evening and met with his family.

Local sources report that Nasheed is in the Maldives for 3 days after which he will return to the UK.

Following the blast, the Maldives law was amended to provide secure residences for the heads of the three branches of government. However, the temporary residences are still under renovation.

Strict security protocols are in place to protect the Speaker during his visit. Recently, alarms were raised regarding a break-in at Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan’s home.
