Addu City, Maldives – Addu City has received shipments including the components of the waste management plant for the establishment of the Addu Waste Management Facility.
This facility will serve for the entire Addu City, Fuvahmulah City and all islands in Huvadhoo atoll including resorts and other industrial islands. The Waste Management Facility is equipped with access from both land and marine transport.
With the commissioning expected in July 2022, this facility will process 50 tonnes of waste per day and generates 1.5 MW of which 1MW will be fed into Addu City central grid and remaining 500 KW will be utilized for the facility.
Once the facility is operational waste from islands in Huvadhoo and Fuvahmulah and Hulhudhoo & Meedhoo will be transfered through purpose built vessels to this facility on scheduled basis.
This waste to energy plant is a part of the south regional waste managemeny facility and one of three main regional facilities that the government pledged to establish.
