Foreign influences can threaten Maldives independence: MNP PG Leader

Malé, Maldives – The Parliamentary group leader of Maldives National Party (MNP) and MP for Thimarafushi Constituency Abdulla Riyaz on Tuesday stated that the Maldives has experienced how external influences can threaten the nation’s independence and such the public is currently facing such fears.

MP Riyaz stated this during the Victory Day event held at HDh. Kulhudhuffushi city by MNP. Speaking at the event, the parliamentarian stated that Maldives must be mindful of the foreign policies which create fear of foreign influence in the country within the public’s minds.

We cannot solely depend on one foreign country for everything. Our foreign policies must within limits to preserve our independence.

In addition to Riyaz, Former defence minister and current parliament representative for Dhangethi constituency, Mohamed Nazim also spoke at the event stressing the importance of creating fruitful futures for the youth of the country in order to solve many issues currently faced by the Maldives.

MNP leaders thanked the sacrifices of the Maldives armed forces during the 3 November 1988 attack.
