21 civil servants employed at Vilimalé state children’s shelter laid off

Malé, Maldives – Civil Service Commission (CSC) has laid off 21 civil servants employed at “Kudakudhinge Hiya” state children’s shelter.

Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services stated that the employees were provided with other opportunities before being laid off following the decision to close the children’s shelter located in Vilimalé. The wards of the state living in this shelter are being moved to decentralized homes “Amanveshi” in the atolls.

[Dismissing 21 civil servants] is not a sudden decision. We have discussed for almost a year to explore avenues.

Gender Ministry’s official said that of the 71 employees who were given the opportunity to transfer to the atolls, only 3 showed interest.

7 employees resigned of their own accord while 43 transferred to other departments.

Gender Ministry official reported that the employees were dismissed per protocol after the CSC sent a list of employees to be laid off.
