Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, Maldives – TS Line fishing dhoni of GDh. Madaveli made history on Tuesday with the second highest weighed catch in the Maldives.

The Madaveli dhoni broke records by catching 45.9 tonnes of tuna in one day, while also catching 95 tonnes of fish in 4 days. This sets a new record for the highest amount of catch in 4 days.

The TS Line dhoni is giving tough competition to the highest catch record holder, another dhoni from the same southern atoll, Rasmagu of GDh. Thinadhoo. Rasmagu holds the record in the Maldives for highest catch in one day with 56 tonnes.

Pole and line fishing, originated in the Maldives, is praised internationally as a highly responsible and sustainable fishing technique with very little bycatch as the fish, skipjack and yellowfin tuna, are caught one by one. This method of fishing causes minimal damage to marine ecosystems, unlike some other destructive methods.
