Three arrested for kidnapping, assault of Maldivian soldier

Malé, Maldives – The Maldives Police Service, today, arrested three individuals suspected of assaulting a Maldivian soldier in the capital city Malé.

Three adults, 18, 21 and 29, were arrested under court warrant for the assault of Staff Sergent Hassan Faheem.

On 17 November 2021, a group of masked men allegedly kidnapped Staff Sergent Hassan Faheem of the Maldives National Defence Force from Yaagoothu road in a burglary attempt according to the family of the victim. The soldier was severely assaulted at a second location and abandoned in front of IGMH.

The victim suffered injuries to his face, back with bleeding from trauma.

Police state that the crime is motivated by personal matters and has no connection to Faheem being an MNDF officer.

MNDF has said that such cowardly acts will not hinder the resolve of Maldivian soldiers.
