New Covid-19 cases in Addu City drop to single digits

Addu City, Maldives – Addu Emergency Operations Center (Addu EOC) on Thursday reported that the new Covid-19 cases for past three days in Addu City has been in single digits.

New cases reported in Addu City on 9, 8 and 7 December are 9, 3 and 5 cases respectively. This is a tremendous improvement since Addu EOC strengthened Covid-19 protective measures in the southern most city due to uncontrolled number of cases on 28 November 2021.

As of 18:00 on Thursday, the Southernmost city of Maldives reported 9 new cases with 7 new positive cases recorded in Hithadhoo and 2 in Maradhoo. The rest of Addu City has reported no positive cases. There are 158 active cases with 2 hospitalized. 11 deaths have been reported from Addu City since the Covid-19 pandemic started.

Addu City currently remains the region under Covid-19 monitoring measures for the longest time in the Maldives.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) placed Addu City’s connected islands, Hithadhoo, Feydhoo, Maradhoo and Maradhoo Feydhoo under monitoring on 28 August 2021, with curfew imposed starting 29 August 2021. Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo in Addu City were placed under monitoring on 4 September 2021.
