COVID-19: 12 islands placed under monitoring in December 2021

Malé, Maldives – Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) informed today that the number of islands under monitoring for the Covid-19 virus has increased to 32 with 12 islands placed under monitoring this month.

Nine islands were placed under monitoring today including B. Eydhafushi, HDh. Hanimaadhoo, B. Dhonfanu, N. Landhoo, N. Miladhoo, Lh. Hinnavaru, Th. Vilufushi, Th. Hirilandhoo and GDh. Rathafandhoo.

Additionally Dh. Kudahuvadhoo, ADh. Maamigili and N. Maafaru were placed under monitoring this month.

All districts of Addu City are still under monitoring with an increase in cases according to the most recent data, in addition to M. Mulah, N. Miladhoo, N. Velidhoo and ADh. Mahibadhoo.

Meanwhile, the total number of new cases recorded as of yesterday were 218, with 20 cases recorded in the Greater Malé area and 188 in the inhabited islands. 10 cases were recorded from operational resorts in the Maldives.

There are 1,933 active cases in the country from 4,246 sampled tested in the past 24 hours. Only 15 Covid-19 patients are being treated in the hospitals.

An additional death was also recorded in the Maldives today, with the passing of a 80 year old Maldivian woman admitted in B. Atoll Covid Management Facility adding the total deaths recorded to 258.
