Parliament grants 5 days for ACC members to submit written statements prior to dismissal

Malé, Maldives – The Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions provided 5 days to the members of Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) to submit written statements prior to dismissal.

The Parliament of Maldives has scheduled a special sitting for tomorrow to dismiss the members of the ACC as advised by the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions. Following this, the parliament sent the matter back to the committee.

The Committee on Independent Institutions held a meeting today to dismiss the remaining 3 members of the ACC and voted to grant a 5 day window for the members to provide written statements.

There are only 3 members of ACC remaining at present; ACC President Mariyam Shiuna, Vice President Aminath Anoola and member Aishath Abdulla. Members Ibrahim Shakeel and Ashraf Ali both resigned following the performance audit by the parliament.
