Discussions held to establish Muslim World League office in Maldives

Malé, Maldives – His Excellency Sheikh Dr Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL) on Tuesday met with the State Minister of the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Khaleel.

We also discussed the possibility of opening a representative office of the Muslim World League in the Maldives.

A wide range of topics, including enhancing cooperation in counter terrorism, counter radicalization and issues related to Islamophobia, empowerment of women and the role of the Muslim World League were discussed in today’s meeting.

The two parties discussed cooperation in the field of capacity building and further training of Maldivian religious scholars and imams with the support of the Muslim World League. Discussions further included the importance of empowering women and ensuring equal participation of women in public life and the elimination of all forms of violence against women.

The discussions also focused on the importance of expediting the opening of the King Salman Mosque.

During his visit the President conferred the Order of the Dignified Rule of Kalaafaanu on His Excellency Sheikh Dr Al-Issa.

The Secretary General has also met with Ahmed Zahir, Minister of Islamic Affairs and Mariya Ahmed Didi, Minister of Defence and held fruitful discussions over the past two days.
