Prison officers to trial body worn cameras and tasers

Malé, Maldives – The Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) on Thursday signed an agreement with Zeta Technologies to procure body cameras and tasers to be trialled by prison officers.

Under the agreement signed today, distributor Zeta Technologies are to provide 15 body worn cameras manufactured by the US Axon company and three tasers within a three month period.

The agreement was signed by Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu on behalf of MCS and Managing Director Mohamed Aiman Adam from Zeta Technologies.

Training programs are to begin shortly regarding the safe use of tasers. The cameras and tasers are to be used by frontline prison officers. The body worn cameras are to increase the accountability of MCS.
