UK’s Minister of State for South Asia Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon visits Addu City

Addu City, Maldives – United Kingdom’s Minister of State for South Asia and the Commonwealth and the Prime Minister’s Special Representative, Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon & the first resident Ambassador to the Republic of Maldives, Her Excellency Caron Röhsler visited Addu on an official trip on Wednesday.

Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon was received at Gan International Airport by Deputy Mayor Mohamed Shuaau & Members of Parliament of Addu City.

Durinh his visit to Addu City, Lord Tariq Ahmad visited the Addu Nature Park where a guided tour was presented to the delegates.

Addu City holds a historic relationship with the UK established a secret RN Air Station on the island of Gan, the southernmost of the Addu City in 1941 during the second world war. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth visited the Royal Air Force Base in Gan Addu Atoll in 1972.

During his visit to the Maldives, Lord Tariq Ahmad has met with top government officials including the Defence Minister, Home Minister, Islamic Minister and Speaker of the Parliament.

Discussions include possibilities of collaboration on climate, economy, and development to further the relationship between the two countries.
