Malé, Maldives – The Government of Maldives on Tuesday decided to provide financial assistance to Maldivian students in Russia and neighbouring Belarus to return home due to the ongoing war in the region.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that financial assistance will be given to any students wishing to return to the country. There are currently 88 Maldivians in Russia and 137 in various cities of Belarus.

While physical classes are being conducted in both countries, students in Russia are liaising with universities to conduct online classes. The diplomatic mission located in Germany is assisting students in the process.

The government safely evacuated 15 Maldivians in Ivano-Frankivsk via Hungary. The Maldivian family in Kyiv has also found safe passage to Hungary. There are currently 8 Maldivian students remaining in Ukraine in the city of Kharkiv.
