Biggest aviation emergency exercise in Maldives scheduled for March

Malé, Maldives – The largest emergency exercise in the field of aviation held in the country has been schedule for March 16th.

The exercise will be held at Velana International Airport, Hulhulé, and is held in collaboration with Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

MACL detailed that all departments working in the airport would partake in the emergency drill and that Emirates is set to participate as an airline partner. Additionally, 400 volunteers from a total of 29 agencies are also expected to participate in the drill, including Girl Guides, Scout and Cadet.

Five hospitals from the Malé area are also expected to participate in the exercise, including IGMH, ADK, Senehiya, Tree Top and Hulhumalé Hospital.

The four hour exercise starting at 16:00 would see all areas of the airport closed for two hours with the exception of the seaplane runway. However, minimal disruptions are expected in the daily operation of the airport throughout the exercise.
