Malé, Maldives – “Shaamil Adu,” the first of its kind, screen reading software in Dhivehi for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) was launched at a ceremony held earlier today.
The software which can be used on desktop computers as well as on Android and iOS platforms was developed by the Department of Inclusive Education in association with Javaabu Private Limited.
The software also addresses difficulties faced by the visually impaired in accessing various platforms popular amongst children with vision disabilities. The user acceptance test was conducted in collaboration with Aminiya School and the Blind and Visually Impaired Association of Maldives.
“Shaamil Adu” specialized for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) was launched today by Vice President Faisal Naseem at a ceremony held at JEN Maldives Malé. Several senior representatives from the education sector were in attendance.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, the Vice President expressed his hope that the software would facilitate further opportunities for PWDs. He highlighted the broad role played by the government in providing opportunities for PWDs, emphasising that the education sector promotes inclusivity during any school-related activity.
