Addu City, Maldives – A case of sexual abuse of a minor has come to light in an atoll located in the southern region of the Maldives.
Maldives Police Service confirmed this, and detailed that the case was reported to the authority on 24th March, 2022. However, Police refrained from revealing which atoll the incident took place in, but said that it was from an atoll in the Southern Police Region (Gaafu Alif, Gaafu Dhaalu, Fuvahmulah and Addu City). Additionally, age and gender of the child has also been withheld.
Such information pertaining to cases concerning minors are often withheld by authorities to protect the interest of the victim and to prevent further victimisation of the individual.
As police continue to investigate the matter, it has been confirmed that a 59 year old woman has been arrested in connection to the crime under a court warrant.
