COVID-19: Positive cases in islands higher as national positivity rate drops

Malé, Maldives – The Covid-19 positivity rate has dropped to 11 percent according to data released by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) today.

Data released by HPA for the first time since the the state of public health emergency was revoked shows that the national positivity rate which spiked in the last week of January 2022 at 36 percent has dropped significantly. The positivity rate at the capital city Malé has also dropped, almost reaching pre-Omicron levels at 4 percent.

Meanwhile, the daily positive rate at the islands are significantly higher than in the capital.

From 14 to 26 March 2022, a total of 2.342 positive cases were recorded nationwide with one Covid-19 related fatality. The new cases from the islands is recorded at 1,938 while 184 cases were reported from Malé.
