All 9 arrested in Addu regarding terror plot released

Addu, Maldives –  Maldives Police Service (MPS) has confirmed the release of all nine individuals arrested in Addu under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (No. 32/2015).

All nine individuals were initially arrested on 27th March. However, three were released without a remand. Police stated that the remaining six persons were released as keeping them in custody was no longer justified, after keeping them in remand for 7 days as ordered by the Hithadhoo Magistrate Court.

No further details, nor the identities of those arrested were revealed by Police regarding the matter. However, unofficial reports suggest that there were three minors and several others previously accused of terrorism were among those arrested.

These individuals were arrested in Addu during President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Commissionaire of Police Mohamed Hameed, External Affairs Minister of India Dr. S. Jaishankar’s visit to Addu, along with other high level members of India and Maldives.
