Malé, Maldives – The Maldives Police Service removed “India Out” banners from various locations across the capital city Malé on Thursday.

Police raided a number of locations including the opposition PPM head office and former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s private residence.

Police entered former President Yameen’s residence with a court warrant and removed the banner at 11:30 on Thursday. The former President’s lawyers resisted stating that the warrant did not grant the authority to remove the banner itself.

Following the event President’s Chief of Staff, Ali Zahir stated that the “India Out” movement is now against the law with the President’s decree this morning and the seized paraphernalia can be used as evidence by the prosecution.
