Malé, Maldives – Opposition party PPM secured the Vilimalé Women’s Development Committee seat by a one-vote margin on Saturday.

Fathimath Nazima of PPM won 359 votes while Aminath Sheeza of MNP won 358 votes at the by-election held today.

The Vilimalé WDC seat was vacated after the sudden death of MDP representative Aminath Eman on March 1 after sustaining critical injuries in a road accident.

The ruling party MDP forfeited the by-election after failing to submit its application within the deadline.
