Malé, Maldives – Maldives Correctional Services on Monday stated that Ali Mohamed (58), Happy Rest, AA. Himandhoo died at 15:20 in Hulhumalé jail while receiving treatment at Hulhumalé Hospital.
Mohamed, serving a 10 year prison sentence for child sexual abuse, was transported to Hulhumalé Hospital presenting with breathing difficulties. The deceased was first treated at the medical center in Hulhumalé Jail.
Corrections’ statement read that the case has been brought to the attention of the Inspector of Correctional Services, Maldives Police Service, Human Rights Commission of the Maldives and National Integrity Commission.
A prisoner detained in Hulhumalé jail also died in September 2021.
