Malé, Maldives – A U.S. woman attempting to smuggle MVR 10 million worth of cocaine into the Maldives has been ordered to be held in remand for another 15 days.

The 55 year old was nabbed for peddling drugs trying to enter Maldives as tourist inbound from Brazil on 11th May. The arrest was prompted following a search carried out after noticing suspicious activity from the individual, which revealed concealed drugs in her luggage.

This is the second time her remand duration has been extended by the Criminal Court, after it was initially extended last Thursday.

Evidence against the woman suggests that the woman was carrying 2.64 kilograms of drugs and that statements of police officers who attended the scene as well as the chat logs retrieved from her phone support the allegations against her.

According to Maldives Customs, the 2.64 kilogram of cocaine is worth MVR 10 million.
