Four additional arrests in connection to gang-related homicide at Addu City

Addu City, Maldives – Police on Monday confirmed that four suspects have been arrested in connection to the gang retaliation homicide in Addu City on 2 June 2022.

Mohamed Zayan Moosa (21), Solid, S. Feydhoo died due to injuries from a violent stabbing in the early hours of Thursday, 2 June 2022. The attack is reportedly a retaliation due to a drug-related feud between two Feydhoo gangs. A 19 year old was critically injured on Tuesday, 31 May 2022, two days prior to the homicide.

Police stated that four adults were arrested on 18 June 2022 under a court warrant in relation to the murder.

Three of the four suspects were granted remand while another (18) was released by the court. The first two suspects (18, 22) were remanded to custody for 15 days while the suspect (24) was remanded till the end of trial.

Prior to this, police had arrested five individuals in relation to the recent gang violence that rocked Addu City.
