Five arrested following Addu gang violence

Addu City, Maldives – The Maldives Police Service arrested five individuals following the Addu gang violence last week.

Police arrested a 15 year old on Monday night while the other four were arrested on Sunday night.

Courts have remanded the 16 year old to 10 days in remand custody while two 18 year olds and a 29 year old have been remanded to 5 days.

Police have taken action regarding the homicides after Addu City Council released a statement calling for immediate action to restore peace following gand-related homicide on Thursday, 2 June 2022.

Mohamed Zayan Moosa (21), Solid, S. Feydhoo died due to injuries from a violent attack in the early hours of Thursday. The attack is reportedly a retaliation due to a drug-related feud between two Feydhoo gangs. Prior to the attack, a 19 year old was critically injured on Tuesday, 31 May 2022.

Police are still investigating the case.
