Malé, Maldives – CEO of Maldives Transport & Contracting Company (MTCC) Adam Azim on Monday stated that starting August 2022, Bank of Maldives (BML) touch and go cards and QR codes can be used for payment on MTCC buses.

CEO Azim stated this in response to a question regarding the difficulties faced by passengers in the current system of being able to only use MTCC bus cards which must be recharged using cash at limited physical locations spread across the greater Malé area.

While BML had signed an agreement with Mastercard in 2021 to implement integrated transport management and automatic fare collection system for the public transport service operated by MTCC in the Maldives, the current bus payment systems also extend to BML Visa, American Express and Mastercards.

MTCC has also expanded the bus fleet servicing the greater Malé area under the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) with the addition of 15 buses. Presently, the Malé area RTL comprises of 46 buses including 23 double-decker buses, city buses, and coaches.
