Male’, Maldives –  CEO of Maldives Transport & Contracting Company (MTCC) Adam Azim has stated that over 19,000 people use MTCC buses in a single day amid rising concerns of double decker buses on congested roads in greater Male’ area.

CEO Azim further stated that to meet this demand, the company must either use 200 smaller buses or 50 double deckers and questioned which option is better.

Azim detailed that 50 double decker buses, which accommodates 80 passengers, are being used within the Hulhumale’ Phase I and Phase II area. With the increasing demand, the company also plans to facilitate bus ride payments with Bank of Maldives (BML) touch and go cards and QR codes starting August 2022.

Public concern have been raised following multiple accidents involving MTCC buses. Following this, the company has started a campaign to educate the public on road safety with emphasis on driving while accommodating large vehicles and refraining from speeding.
