Police launch internal review following Yoga Day attack

Malé, Maldives – Maldives Police Service on Tuesday stated that the department has launched an internal review to investigate the police response ahead of the violence at the Yoga Day event.

Highlights of the police statement,

  • Six Maldivian males have been arrested in connection to the violence
  • Protest paraphernalia originated from the opposition PPM office
  • Police are now investigating and preparing for legal action

Police also highlighted that an internal review will be conducted to identify the response of the police ahead of the attack.

Police are receiving criticisms from the public for the slack security at the event attended by prominent diplomats including ambassadors and UN representatives. Public is also criticizing the police intelligence team since the violent protest was organized using social media hashtags #StandAgainstYOGA and #No2YOGA last night.
