Second batch of doctors arrive in the Maldives from Cuba

Malé, Maldives – The second batch of Cuban Medical Brigade arrived in the Maldives on Sunday under the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Maldives’ Ministry of Health and Ministry of Public Health of Cuba.

The MoU was signed on 9 December 2021 in a ceremony held in Cuba, with State Minister Dr Shah Abdulla signing on behalf of the Maldives and Cuba’s Minister of Public Health Dr Jose Angelo signing on behalf of Cuba. The agreement aims to expand the medical collaboration between the two countries interms of human resources, pharmaceutical testing and provision of laboratory services.

26 doctors of the Cuban medical brigade were to arrive in the Maldives in an effort to resolve the lack of specialist doctors in the island nation.

The first batch of four specialists arrived in the Maldives on Wednesday, 29 June 2022.

The agreement provides a Hematologist and Psychiatrist for the National Drug Agency (NDA), a family physician for Dhamana Veshi, along with an internal medicine specialist, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and radiologists.
