Malé, Maldives – Maldives Police Service on Monday denied allegations by detainees’ lawyers that they were visited by officials of the Indian High Commission in the Maldives while in custody.
Police advised the media against publishing false information from questionable sources since it can create distrust from the public against the police.
Maldivian local media reported the news yesterday stating that Indian officials from the High Commission visited detainees in custody after defence lawyer Ahmed Ra’ib stated such as a press conference held on Sunday.
Ra’ib stated that Indian officials visited detainees in custody and verbally abused them.
Maldives Police deny these allegations.
