Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, Maldives – Regional news ”Garfunkel” reports that swell wave surges are crashing into GDh. Thinadhoo from causing major damage to fishing vessels anchored at the eastern harbour.

The Maldives Meteorology Office on Wednesday released a White Alert for the southern atolls from Thaa Atoll to Addu City with expected swell surges. The surges are expected to continue until 16:30 today.

Thinadhoo Council has previously confirmed that the eastern harbour suffers major damage during the stormy monsoon due to low land levels.

National Disaster Management Agency reported that 35 islands were affected from 11 atolls due to devastating storm surges earlier this month, from 1 to 3 July 2022. 6 families were displaced from the southern atolls while property damage was reported from the nothern atolls.

Thinadhoo shore protection and land reclamation project to combat these issues was contracted to MTCC on 9 January 2022.
