Met Office issues White Alert for all of Maldives

Male’, Maldives – Maldives Meteorological Services (MET) on Sunday issued a white alert warning for the entire country, forecasting heavy rain and thunderstorms with strong winds.

The alert expected to take effect between 11:00 until 17:00 of Sunday, with gusts of 45 miles per hour.

Islands and the greater Male’ area are experiencing heavy rains with storm surges occurring in some areas.

Met Office shared the development and progression of dense convective clouds on the west of Maldives and over the country. All are advised to stay up to date with latest weather info via the Met Office viber group of ”Moosun” application on AppStore or Play Store.

National Disaster Management Agency reported that 35 islands were affected from 11 atolls due to devastating storm surges earlier this month, from 1 to 3 July 2022. 6 families were displaced from the southern atolls while property damage was reported from the nothern atolls.
