Multinational courier Aramex’s cargo vessel sinks at Velana International Airport jetty

Malé, Maldives – A boat belonging to Multinational courier Aramex has submerged in the middle of cargo loading at Velana International Airport’s cargo dock Saturday evening.

MACL’s General Manager of Corporate Communication Hassan Areef stated that the boat sank during cargo loading earlier today and attempts were being made to retrieve the cargo.

Initial reports suggest that the vessel was carrying multiple packages from online clothing brand Shein.

Aramex is an Emirati multinational logistics, courier and package delivery company based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The company is a major player in the Maldives for couriering online purchases.

While authorities have not released a statement regarding the incident, Maldives Met Office has released a white alert for the whole country with particular caution to seafarers.
