Noonu Atoll, Maldives – Regulatory body of compliance with the Employment Act of Maldives, Labour Relations Authority (LRA) will be opening a branch in Noonu Atoll.
LRA signed an agreement with Noonu Atoll Council to this effect and the council stated that this branch will be a step towards establishing a system to ensure the rights of employees and employers alike, in an atoll level.
The agreement was signed at Noonu Atoll Council Office today, during a special event held to mark the occasion, with the council represented by Council President Mohamed Basheer and LRA represented by the institutions Director Ahmed Mizhath Naseem.
Mizhath stated that the decision to open a branch in the atoll was based on the fact that the atoll has many luxury resorts, which may cause many employment related issues.
Labour Relations Authority was established by the Employment Act (2/2008), to observe compliance with the Act and its regulations enacted, and to implement the administrative steps required for adherence to the Employment Act.
In order to ensure compliance with the Act and its regulations enacted, officials of the Labour Relations Authority are mandated to inspect work places from time to time.
