Malé, Maldives – The government of Maldives has declared October 3, 2022 as a public holiday, to mark the occasion of the 50th anniversary of tourism in Maldives.
Announcing the holiday, the President’s Office stated that 3rd October will be marked as the National Tourism Day and celebrated to that effect for the first time this year.
It was further clarified that the decision to make the date a holiday this year was upon the advice of the Cabinet, considering the grand celebratory plans in place.
While this year marks 50 years since tourism commenced in the Maldives, the Ministry of Tourism and other organisations working in the tourism industry have been holding various events throughout the year to mark the occasion.
