Shiaau Murder: Preliminary post mortem results received

Malé, Maldives – Maldives Police has confirmed that the authority has received preliminary results of the post mortem report of Shiaau Mohamed Saeed.

Shiaau’s body was sent to India for an autopsy on 11th August, after she was found murdered with gruesome injuries in a Malé apartment on 6th August.

With regards to the autopsy report, Police confirmed that the results of the tests were received by the authority on the 17th of August, and that forensic tests are still on going.

While authorities have not disclosed the results of the autopsy, local news have reported claims that the test confirmed the cause of death as the injuries sustained by the body, and that there is no reason to believe Shiaau died from overdose.

In connection with Shiaau’s murdere, a 23 year old local man named Ali Shaahil was arrested from the scene, who has been held in remand pending the outcome of his trial. Shaahil was under the influence of an intoxicant at the time of arrest, Police said.

Police are still investigating and preparing the case for prosecution.
