MNDF ceases search operation for missing Addu youth

Malé, Maldives – Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has announced that they have stopped the search and rescue operation to find Mohamed Minhaj who went missing after the speedboat he was traveling in capsized.

The speedboat Minhaj travelled in, which is reported to have a capacity of 36 passengers and departed from Malé at 13:30 on last Thursday, capsized near Ukulhas island of Alifu Alifu atoll with only two passengers.

The second person that travelled with Minhaj is reported to have swam his way onto Feridhoo island near Ukulhas and was transported to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Malé for further treatment.

According to MNDF a total of 665 square nautical miles was searched using their sea vessels and an additional 2,000 square nautical miles was searched by air over the 4 day search. However no signs of the missing individual was found.

While the nature of the trip is yet to be known, the overturned speedboat was found by locals, who tugged the boat into the nearby island’s harbor.
