Over 82 kilos of drugs confiscated in Hoadehdhoo operation

Malé, Maldives – Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed has revealed that an additional 69 kilograms of drugs in an operation conducted Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll bringing the total weight of the confiscated drugs in the operation to 82 kilograms.

The commissioner tweeted that 13 kilograms of drugs were found buried in Hoadehdhoo on October 27 and 69 kilograms of drugs were recovered from an uninhabited island near Hoadehdhoo today.

He also revealed that the 82 kilograms of drugs seized so far include meth and heroin.

The Police Integrity Commission is investigating a case in which one of the arrested person in the operation died after suffering chest pain while being taken into custody. The body of the deceased has now been taken to India for post-mortem against the family’s will.

Abdulla Rasheed, 43 was arrested in the counter-drug operation from a café near the harbor of Hoandedhdhoo island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll on October 25.

According to the family, Abdulla Rasheed died after police arrested him for chest pain and delayed treatment.
