Ex-President Yameen welcomed with overwhelming support from Addu City

Addu City, Maldives – Opposition leader, former President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom was warmly welcomed at Gan International Airport today.

While hundreds of people went to the airport to welcome President Yameen, this is the first time President Yameen has visited Addu City since stepping down.

Yameen will visit all the wards of Addu City from today till the 9th of this month. He is scheduled to meet with the PPM members in Feydhoo first.

Yameen, who has been handed over the opposition coalitions presidential ticket to contest next year’s presidential election, is also scheduled to hold a special rally in Addu City.

Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has stated that opposition leader, former President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s is not visiting Addu City to meet people belonging to any particular ideology or party but that every citizen will be able to meet him during his visit.

Speaking to the press to give updates on the former presidents visit to Addu City yesterday, spokesperson of PPM, Heena Waleed told that Yameen will meet people of all ages and backgrounds during his trip to city.

“It is not only people belonging to a party who have the opportunity. All the people will have the opportunity to meet him during this visit,” Heena said.

Heena also told that the former presidents main purpose of the trip is to discuss the future developmental plans for Addu City with the people. Former President Yameen is scheduled to meet with businessmen, women, youths, fishermen and people in working in other areas.

As Yameen is campaigning in different parts of the country, PPM has previously stated that he will visit all the islands of the island nation before the presidential election.
