Addu City, Maldives – Opposition leader, former President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that he will create 5,000 jobs in Addu City if he comes to power again.

Speaking at the meeting with PPM members in Feydhoo this afternoon, Yameen said he would create 5,000 jobs in Addu City alone within the first three years if he gets elected back to the President’s Office.

“If I get the chance to govern next, for the people of Addu City who want to work in this city, I’m not talking about the Addu people in the capital, for this city alone, we will hopefully create 5,000 jobs in our first three years,” he said.

Yameen said this is a promise to the people of Addu and the jobs will be created through various economic activities. He said this is to end the poor conditions being faced by the youth in the city today.

He also added that if he wins another term in office, the biggest thing would be to pay off debts and then the top priority will be to improve the situation of the youth. The biggest thing to improve the situation of the youth is to provide jobs and ways of income generation, he said.

“We are calculating the numbers now. We expect to produce 5,000 within the first three years.” Yameen explained.

The former president also highlighted the projects he had carried out in Addu City during his term in office. People of Feydhoo had also presented him with a list of developmental activities they wanted in the island.

While this is the first time former president has visited Addu City since stepping down, Yameen will visit all the wards of Addu City from today till the 9th of this month.
