Argentina has defeated France to win the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
Argentina won the tournament after beating France 4-2 on penalties.
Argentina beat France 4-2 on penalty kicks after a thrilling 3-3 draw which saw Lionel Messi score twice and Kylian Mbappé score a hat-trick.
Mbappé has also become the first player ever to score a hat-trick in the World Cup final since 1966.
This is Argentina’s first World Cup title since 1986. It was also Argentina’s third World Cup title.
Argentina played a great attacking game, holding the ball for most of the game. France didn’t show their true game early in the match. However, towards the end of the first half and the beginning of the second half, France improved their game and tried to create some attacks. They didn’t send a single attack on Argentina’s goal until the end of the first half and until France’s first goal.
Argentina opened the scoring from a penalty in the 23rd minute. The penalty was awarded after France’s Dembele fouled Di Maria in the penalty area. Argentina captain Lionel Messi scored from the penalty spot. This is Messi’s fourth penalty goal in the World Cup.
Argentina extended their lead in the 36th minute. Di Maria scored the winner from a good chance to play as a team. Di Maria scored the goal in his last appearance for the Argentina national team.
France scored the first goal of the match from a penalty in the 80th minute. Young star Kylian Mbappé equalized for France 97 seconds later.
Argentina took the lead in the third minute of the second half of extra time. This was a substitute Martinez’s shot that hit the French goalkeeper, and Lionel Messi slid the rebound into the net.
Argentina were disappointed by Kilian Mbappe’s penalty two minutes before the end of extra time.
While Argentina won the 2022 FIFA World Cup with a team performance in the match, this is the third time the team has won the World Cup. Argentina have won the 1978 and 1986 titles.
