Malé, Maldives – Maldives Police Service has arrested 17 people with 6.8 kg of drugs in a drug operation in Malé and Hulhumalé.
Commissioner of Police Mohammed Hameed said in a tweet that MVR 933,430 was seized along with 6.8 kg of drugs during searches at 10 places in Malé and Hulhumalé on Thursday. 17 people have been arrested during the operation, he said.
CP Hameed said the arrested were part of a well-known drug trafficking group. However, he did not disclose which group it was.
Three of the arrested were remanded in custody for 15 days while another was remanded in custody for 30 days. The rest are yet to be produced in court for a decision on their remand.
The identities of those involved in the case have not been released.
